Originally constituted on July 18^th 1917 in the Virginia National Guard as Headquarters, 54th Field Artillery Brigade, and assigned to the 29th Division. Reorganized in 1931, the 54^th was active in WWII at Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe, until it was deactivated on January 17^th 1946. The 54^th Reorganized in 1959 and remains active till today.
