by poppysvintageclothing.com

  • Product Description

This is a pair of dated 1936 vintage tuxedo tails or formal tailcoat, custom tailored by Parisian tailor Martial Crémieux - please read further below for a short bio of Crémieux.  These vintage tuxedo tails are made in classic form with padded shoulders, wide satin peaked lapels, chest pocket, no closure, cut away front with six buttons, two buttons at the back and four buttons at either split cuff.  They are fully lined in black satin and quilted under the arms for resistance to wear.  Note that there are no pants included, only the vintage tuxedo tails.

Label:  Martial Crémieux Paris 54, Rue des Martyrs.

Some sad history on the Crémieux family who were “papal Jews”.  He was born in Marseille in 1877.  His family established a number of tailor shops in Toulouse, Saint-Nazaire and Tours during the second half of the 19th century.  Martial Crémieux served in WWI and established his tailor shop at 54 rue des Martyrs after the war.  Although he and his wife were warned in July 1944 that there was to be a roundup by the Germans prior to the arrival of the allied forces, they ignored it and subsequently were captured and executed. .

Tailor’s label: dated Octobre 1936

Sizing: There is no size label on these vintage tuxedo tails as they are custom tailored, and although these vintage tuxedo tails should fit a medium size (US size 38), please rely on the following measurements for fit, taken from the exterior:

Sleeves: 24 1/2” from shoulder seam
