This is a wonderful antique tuxedo shirt made in Canada by John Forsyth with a collar made in England by Lloyd, Attree & Smith for Marks haberdashery of Montreal.  The tuxedo shirt features a white bib front and barrel cuffs, both very stiff.  The collar is made with wingtips.  The back of the tuxedo shirt is open with only one button at the lower back.  The tuxedo shirt would be secured closed with the collar stud, but otherwise would be open, allowing for movement in consideration of the stiff bib at the front.  The cotton is of excellent quality in a linen like finish.

Collar stamping:  Marbro 1 3/4 x 16 Made in England by Lloyd, Attree & Smith for Marks Exclusive Men’s Wear 1196. Peel St. 957. St. James St Montreal.  Henry Marks was established in 1902 on St James St and opened at second store in the Windsor Hotel at 1196 Peel in 1915.  In 1921, they moved the Peel store further up the street to the newly built Mount Royal Hotel at 1455 Peel St., so the collar and shirt date prior to 1921.  Lloyd, Attree & Smith were established in London in 1857.

Sizing: Size 16” neck is indicated both on the tuxedo shirt and collar.  The shoulders measure 18 1/2” across from seam to seam, the chest measures 22” across pit to pit with a 35 inch long sleeve from the mid-neck, 25 1/2” long from the shoulder seam.

Condition: This tuxedo shirt is in very good condition with a light yellowish dot on the bib, very minor and most probably could be spot treated.  Otherwise, the shirt appears to be clean and free of wear, tear or other staining or odour.   Surprising considering the age of this shirt, but it has been well stored over the last 100+ years.
