This is an antique tuxedo tails or formal tailcoat.  These antique tuxedo tails are made in classic form with padded shoulders, no closure, cut away front and with four silk covered buttons, four buttons at the back and two buttons at either cuff.  There is also a buttonhole at the bottom left corner and a stitched area at the right corner - why this is made like this, I’m unsure.  The peaked lapels are elongated and covered in silk.  these antique tuxedo tails are lined in a greenish toned fabric that I’ve seen before, but only on very old garments.  Note that there are no pants included, only the tails.

Age:  most likely 1910s, but possibly older.  Although these antique tuxedo tails are made in a classic form, the four buttons at the back, the wool and lining fabric utilized and the mysterious extra buttonhole are all clues that this is an old pair of tails.

Sizing: As these antique tuxedo tails were almost certainly made by a tailor, there is no size label, and although theys should fit a medium size (US 38 /40), please rely on the following measurements for fit, taken from the exterior (please take the thickness of the fabric into consideration):

Shoulders: 18” across shoulder seam-to-seam 

Sleeves: 25” from shoulder seam

Sleeve Inseam: 17 3/4” long

Chest: 41” around, taken under the arms with a normal gap

Waist: 40” around

Overall length: 39“ at the back, measured flat from the neck seam

Condition: These antique tuxedo tails have a few small problems.  There is a tiny pinhead sized hole to the side of the left sleeve and there are three small separations to the silk to the upper left lapel and a scuffed area to the lower right lapel.  Otherwise, these tails are in clean condition and given their age, these small defects should be forgiven.    

This is a nice pair of antique tuxedo tails….wonderful steampunk look, great if they fit!
