  • Product Description
In their earliest forms, plateau bags were primitive and primarily utilitarian; woven from natural fibers like hemp and then cornhusks, used to store and transport food and supplies. They evolved into intricate, elaborate beaded works of art, like this one.
This beautiful beaded plateau bag is a vintage find, dating back to the 1950s. The detailed pictorial is an ornate Native American chief holding a tomahawk created with tiny seed beads on a beautiful baby blue beaded background, trimmed with accents of red and green and yellow patterns. The bag is exceptional in that the straps are also beaded, consisting of 5 black beaded strands each, interspersed with colorful accent beads (it is possible that these handles were added at a later date). Incredibly unique and beautiful -- a one-of-a-kind mid-century collector’s piece.
