Max Gitman left New York in 1932 for Ashland, Pennsylvania to start the Ashland Shirt and Pajama Company. Max ran the shop with his sons, Alfred and Sheldon until 1978 when they formed Gitman Bros. shirting. Gitman Bros. is one a few remaining shirt factories in the United States and known for their quality fabrics and craftsmanship. In 2008 the company launched Gitman Vintage to pay tribute to the brand’s rich heritage, creating unique fabrics selected from the factories old line books.
