This vibrant vintage trio is a set of 1960s-era Hopi kachinas, one “corn”, one “Chakwaina”, and one “rain”; hand-carved and painted from cottonwood, embellished with natural pigment, cotton, and feathers. The notched bases of these figurines indicated that they were Zuni creations made for Route 66 tourist trade because they’re able to stand upright on their own, whereas kachinas with spiritual significance were flatter and intended to be hung on a wall.
