  • Product Description

This is an original iconic 1960s Mary Quant beret made in England by Kangol circa 1967.  Examples of this Mary Quant beret are in the collection of the V&A (Victoria & Albert) museum in London.  The V&A actually markets reproductions of the Mary Quant beret, but those repros are made by Christy’s and stamped on the interior with only a large more solid daisy flower whereas the originals are stamped with a thinner daisy, and with Mary Quant, Kangol England with their crossed knitting needles logo and with 100% Pure Wool.  These berets were made in the Kangol factory located in Cleator, Cumbria.  The Mary Quant beret was originally made in twelve different colours and each beret cost 12 shillings and 6d.  I was lucky enough to acquire three colours from the original owner of these berets - yellow, white and blue.  I am listing all three, but this listing is for the blue beret.  Each beret measures 10 7/8” in diameter and the opening measures around 18” around - this stretches somewhat and so the beret should fit a small sized head, about a 6 7/8 and would be snug on a size 7.  It is in very good condition with very little wear - this has been very well stored over the years and looks to have seen little use.  This is a wonderful authentic original 1960s Mary Quant beret, rarely offered - wonderful opportunity to own a small piece of fashion history!
