This is a ladies red hand knitted wool 1930s or 1940s sweater made in a pullover style. Being hand knit, it is possible that it was made later using an old pattern, however, the materials used appear to me to be from that era. This 1940s sweater has an opening at the left shoulder that closes with four mother of pearl buttons and there is a small puff at the top of the sleeves. It is ribbed at the top, bottom and cuffs, and is unlined. The sweater is in very good condition with no signs of pronounced wear - maybe a few places where there is a bit of “fuzziness”. I believe that this 1940s sweater is a size small, but please refer to the following measurements for fit, taking the stretch of the knit into account:
Shoulders: 12 1/2”-13” across from seam-to-seam, your shoulder cap would extend into the puff of the sleeve
Sleeves: 25 1/2” long
Sleeve Inseam: 18 1/2”
Bust: 32” around, unstretched, taken under the arms
Bottom: 24” around, unstretched, stretches out to 30”
Length: 22”
