This is a very rich looking mens vintage dressing gown featuring a paisley pattern woven in satin simulated gold and red against a satin black background. It has padded shoulders, shawl lapels, turned cuffs and applied pockets to the left chest and at either side. The shawl collar, belt and cuffs are in solid black faille (finely ribbed) fabric and the pockets are trimmed in the same faille fabric. The robe closes with the sash belt.
Age: 1950s
Labels: Lounge-Ease by Manhattan of Montreal Reg’d
Retailer label: H. Prevost Limitee 406 est, ure Ste-Catherine, angle St-Denis Montreal. H. Prevost was a men’s haberdashery
Material: No content label, but fabric is probably a woven rayon, although I’m not sure. The fabric has good weight and fall
Sizing: No size is indicated, and although this should fit a medium to large size (US 40-42), but please rely on the following measurements for fit:
Shoulders: 21” across, from shoulder/sleeve seam to shoulder/sleeve seam
Sleeves: 25” long form shoulder/sleeve seam
Sleeve Inseam: 18” long
Chest: 50” around, taken under the arms, approximate, depending on overlap
Waist: 50” around, uncinched, but meant to be cinched with the belt
Overall length: 42"
Condition: It is in very good condition with no pronounced wear, tear, staining or odour - the black faille shawl collar would benefit from a professional pressing - never apply a hot iron directly onto this type of fabric. The retailer's label is detached on one side, just needs a stitch or two. This robe was well stored over the years.
This is a very rich looking dressing gown - great piece to wear while lounging around the house!
