Vintage 1970s Afghan Hippie Vest Embroidered Shearling Sz S

  • Product Description

This is a vintage 1970s Afghan hippie vest that is made of embroidered suede with Karakul lamb shearling interior and fur trim.  These Afghan hippie vests are called Pustincha in their native country where they were traditional garments worn by the general population, the more ornate ones signifying the wealth of the owner.  These were brought back to the West during the 60s and 70s by hippie entrepreneurs and popularized by rock musicians.  This one is made with a brown suede exterior that is embroidered with black, red, yellow and white stitching forming floral shapes.  There are two metal hooks and eyes (one hook is missing) but I think that these may have been added as these Afghan hippie vests generally were meant to be worn open.

Sizing: No size is indicated on this Afghan hippie vest, but it should fit a small size - please rely on the following measurements for fit, taking the thickness of the suede and fur into account:

Shoulders:  13 3/4” across the top

Bust: 37” around, hooked closed, 40” approximate with an open gap

Bottom:  39” around

Overall length: 21” measured flat at the back

Condition:  It is in very clean condition - looks like it saw very little use.

This Afghan hippie vest is original - difficult to find clean 70s era examples like this!
