This is a vintage 80s party dress made in a form fitting sheath style by renowned designer Tadashi Shoji.  Tadashi Shoji studied art in Japan, moving to Los Angeles in 1973 to study fashion design.  He apprenticed with Bill Whitten, who designed costumes for Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Neil Diamond, The Jacksons and Earth, Wind and Fire.  He launched his own line in 1982 using stretch fabrics for evening wear while combining couture techniques with mass production engineering.  He has gained a reputation for creating sophisticated figure-flattering clothing.

This party dress is cut to accentuate the body.  It has a wonderful feathered top that creates the appearance of a boa wrap.  The sides of the top are elasticized so that one can wear the dress in an off-the-shoulder manner.   It has stays on either side of the front and back bodice, and does up the back with a nylon zipper. There is a slit at the bottom centre back of this party dress.  The dress is lined in a black rayon taffeta.

Sizing: Size 4 is indicated on the label, but please rely on the following measurements for fit:

Shoulders:  21” across, stretched

Bust: 34” 

Waist: 26”

Hips:  36”

Length: 36” from the top of the feathers to the hemline of this party dress

Condition: This party dress is in very good condition with no wear, tear, stains or odors.  This was well cared for over the years and looks like it saw little use.  The feathers appear to be intact and all present.

This is a fabulous example of earlier Tadashi design - striking style and fit, entrance making party dress!
