This is a vintage 80s black velvet evening coat.  This evening coat has a large shawl collar, large pads in the shoulders and full cut sleeves with turned cuffs.  It has no closures, so simply folds over at the front.  The back is structured so that it falls in drapes - this looks great on the body.  It has a pocket at either side.  The coat is fully lined in black satin fabric.  it would provide some warmth in a colder climate although it isn’t meant for harsh winter use - it really is more of an evening coat for moderately cold temperatures.

Label:  This is missing its “Coats by Cattiva International Inc.”, but it was undoubtedly made by them.  Cattiva doesn’t appear to have lasted long - I believe 1984 until 1987, so it is easy to date this evening coat.

Material label:   Cotton velvet - the label reads “de Ball Water Repellent Crease and Stain Resist Dry Clean 100% Cotton.  J.L. de Ball is a German fabric manufacturer founded during the late 70s and know for its quality.

Sizing: There is no size label on this evening coat, and although this should fit a large size, please rely on the following measurements for fit (please take the style of the coat into consideration):

Shoulders:  14 1/4” across from shoulder/sleeve seam to shoulder/sleeve seam - note that your shoulder cap would fit into the cap of the sleeve

Sleeves:  26” long

Sleeve inseam: 14”

Bust: 48” around, taken under the arms, approximate with a normal overlap at the front

Waist:  44” around, with a normal overlap

Overall length: 50", measured hanging

Condition: It is in very good condition with no noted wear, tear, staining or odour. 

This is an easy to wear velvet evening coat - elegant 80s style!
