This is an authentic WWII Canadian navy coat or “greatcoat”, made of heavyweight melton cloth wool.  The front of this WWII Canadian navy coat has 12 brass buttons arranged in a double breasted fashion - all are visible when you turn the lapel to close the neck.  This WWII Canadian navy coat is lined at the upper part with a purplish toned wool.  The back has a belt and is cut to fall in wide drapes.  There is a metal hook at either side.  There is a pocket at either side and three on the interior as well as a belt on the interior, the purpose for which I’m unsure.  Even the neck bridge is still present, affixed to buttons on the interior.  The buttons were made by Wm Scully, most with a back, but some are concave - the lack of roping around the buttons means that this was not an officer’s coat.      

Age: 1940s.  There are no markings on this WWII Canadian navy coat except for some white stencil printing on the interior pocket (see close-up photo)

Sizing: No size is indicated on this WWII Canadian navy coat, but this should fit a medium to large size, about a Canadian/US size 42 - please rely on the following measurements for fit, taken from the exterior (please take the thickness of the wool and the style of the coat into consideration):

Shoulders: 19 1/2” across shoulder seam-to-seam 

Sleeves: 26” from shoulder seam

Sleeve Inseam: 18” long

Chest: 46” around, taken under the arms

Waist: 42” around

Hips:  46” around

Overall length: 45", measured flat

Condition: This WWII Canadian navy coat is in very clean condition without any pronounced wear, tear, staining, soiling or odour.  This looks to have seen little use and was well stored over the years.

This is a very desirable WWII Canadian navy coat and very sharp looking - they don’t make quality like this anymore, this would be a super warm winter coat!
