Story of Ikat:

We travelled all the way to mysterious Sumba island and handpicked each piece of  handmade Ikat fabric to create the unique bags for our Love Letters Collection.

What is Ikat? Crafting these beautifully patterned Ikat pieces is a complicated process. Ikat fabric are made by a method of tie-dyeing yarn before the fabric is woven. Dyes are traditionally handmade from local plants and minerals. Some pieces take months, even years, to complete the dyeing process using some natural substances. When the dyed yarns are combined a unique and intricate pattern is created. The weaver has to plan every element of the design in advance, and insert as many as several hundred heddle sticks into the unwoven threads on the loom. Each style in this collection tells its' own story of a life in Sumba.
