This is a vintage 50s smoking jacket or short lounging robe featuring a paisley patterned faille (very fine grosgrain) fabric that is woven with satin paisley shapes outlined in black amongst abstract shapes in red satin as well as a black webbing. The smoking jacket has a black shawl collar, turned cuffs and sash belt. It has a jetted breast pocket and jetted pocket at either side, also trimmed in black fabric. It is fully lined in black satin.
Age: 1950s
Label: Missing
Sizing: No size is indicated on this smoking jacket, and although this should fit a larger medium to smaller large size, probably tall, please rely on the following measurements for fit:
Shoulders: 18” across
Sleeves: 28” long from shoulder seam
Sleeve Inseam: 20” long
Chest: 47” around, approximate, depending on overlap
Waist: 47”, meant to be cinched
Overall length: 37“
Condition: This smoking jacket is in very clean condition with no pronounced wear, tear, staining or odour, but would benefit from a professional pressing especially due to the lapels. The cuffs could use a stitch to hold them together, easy for any sewer. And I think that the belt may be a replacement as the fabric doesn’t appear to be an exact match, but works very well in any case.
This is an attractive vintage smoking jacket – great looking older example!
