This is a vintage Hudsons Bay blanket made in cranberry purple with black bars.  It is a 4 point blanket, meant to fit a double bed.  It has its original nappe (finish). 

Age: This style of label was in use from the mid 1940s to the 1960s, however, this rich cranberry colour was popular in the 1940s

Condition:  This vintage Hudsons Bay blanket is in very good condition with the exception of a few nibbles to the finish and one fray hole at the edge (see last close-up photo).  Otherwise, the nappe is quite good.

Material: 100% Wool

Sizing: 68” by 88”.  The standard for a 4 point vintage Hudsons Bay blanket is 72” by 90” and it should weigh 6 lbs.  Collectors always look for blankets that meet or exceed the standard size as shrinkage occurs with laundering.  This blanket weighs 5 lbs and 8.2 oz - the weight loss signifies some nappe (finish) loss, but 7.8 oz of loss is very little wear on a blanket of this age. 

This is a wonderful vintage Hudsons Bay blanket - the older blankets are of better quality than what they produce today……attractive rich colour, nice addition to a collection....
