This is an antique mens sweater that is hand knit in a pullover style with turtleneck collar. This antique mens sweater is made in red with off-white banded detailing. My feeling is that this sweater also dates to 1910-1920s and was either a varsity sweater or a sweater used by an athlete. There is a delineation in the knit at the lower front (see second to last photo) that might be an indication of a crest having originally been in place, but it’s difficult to say for sure. This antique mens sweater is made for a small to medium size (US size 36/38). Please note the following measurements for fit, taking the stretch of the wool knit into account:
Shoulders: 21” across from shoulder/sleeve seam to shoulder/sleeve seam, but the sweater is made with a slightly dropped shoulder
Sleeves: 19” from the dropped shoulder/sleeve seam with the cuff unturned
Sleeve inseam: 18” long
Chest: 40” around
Bottom: 32” around the bottom band, unstretched, stretches out to 38”
Length: 25”, measured flat from the neck seam
This antique mens sweater is in very good condition with no pronounced wear - there are a few pulls and some slight soiling, but very good for its age.
This antique mens sweater is a rarely seen item - wonderful look!
