Brooke Holm is an Australian-American photographer and explorer. In her work, Holm studies the elemental features of the Earth through detailed environmental portraits. She focuses on the physical body of the Earth, often treated by humankind as we treat anybody, with opposing practices of reverence and exploitation. Holm often works from small aircraft, photographing the veins and arteries of our planet and revealing the pockmarks of time on the surface. When altering our conventional viewpoint, the greater picture is a network of interconnected bodies. Our bodies are merely extensions of the body of the Earth.

'Australuminance I' is a photograph featuring Lake Gairdner, which is part of a large salt lake system found in the desert of South Australia. Photographed from a single engine plane within the troposphere around 2,500 ft off the ground, the salty encrusted lake exhibits radiant colour illuminated by the sun. From above, the vibrant shapes and textures emerge from the endorheic basin, ever shifting with rainfall and floods.
