Fighting Stags Penannular Brooch

by greatscotscotland.com

$ 34.00

  • Product Description

Patterns on this plaid brooch are inspired by the 'key patterns' seen on many examples of Pictish carvings, such as the Aberlemno Cross, the Hilton Stone, or the Cadboll stone.

The intricate interlaced knotwork is found throughout early medieval Britain and represented eternity and the twisting threads of fate.

Brooches with large movable central pins were almost universally used as garment fasteners in the Iron Age, although the design was heartily adopted and elaborated by the peoples of Scotland and Ireland in the centuries between 700 and 900AD.

This is a large brooch, 104mm long and 85mm wide, and is ideal for use with our fly plaids, or custom evening scarves but it looks impressive on wraps and capes too.

Designed, cast, and finished in our Glasgow workshops.

100% lead-free pewter.
