  • Product Description

"Higonokami" is a type of Japanese folding pocket knife originating in Miki city, Hyogo Prefecture. A Higonokami knife has a blade that folds into a handle normally made of folded over sheet metal. When in use, the user can hold their thumb over a lever called Chikiri to prevent the blade from folding.  It's unique double-edged V-shaped blade means you can use either side, regardless of dominant hand.

Higonokami knives are renowned for their simplicity and long-lasting quality. Today there remains only one manufacturer still making authentic Higonokami knives. The manufacturer of this knife has been making Higonokami knives since 1894.

For this knife, we chose a special wood wrapped handle made from bark of Sakura wood (cherry blossom). This is a traditional Japanese craft called "Kabazaiku", and it is known for its rich dark brown color and the natural shine of Sakura bark.

These knives are made using a modern ‘Damascus Steel” method often referred to as ‘pattern welding’ in which multiple layers of different steels are forge-welded together and then hammered and folded to form the finished blade. This manipulation forms a visible pattern on the blade which serves as a beautiful authentic proof that this painstaking method was used. The result is tough and strong blade that is also visibly stunning.

The blade is stamped with Higonokami trademark and "N&F" logo. The handle is left blank to emphasize the beauty of Sakura bark craft.

Blade length: 2 7/8" (7.3 cm), Handle Length: 3 3/4" (9.5cm)
