Unlike industry-standard petroleum-based dyes, this onesie is dyed with organic cochineal.

Cochineal are small insects that live on and eat prickly pear cactuses.  They are native to Central America and have been safely used as a dye for thousands of years for their ability to make strong and beautiful fuchsias and reds. Prior to synthetic food coloring, cochineal (also known as carminic acid) was also commonly used as a food colorant.
