We celebrate the life and achievements of Honorable Ruth Bader Ginsberg.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg was the pioneering Supreme Court justice who became the second female on the nation’s highest court, the leader of its liberal wing, and a pop culture icon known as Notorious R.B.G.  She was appointed in 1993 by President Bill Clinton to fill the seat vacated by Justice Byron White.  The Brooklyn-born daughter of a Jewish immigrant from Russia was the second woman to rise to the bench of the nation’s highest court.

‘I dissent’

Some of her most memorable opinions were dissents. 

She was also full of memorable quotes about equality and justice, like this one: “Women’s rights are an essential part of the overall human rights agenda, trained on the equal dignity and ability to live in freedom all people should enjoy”.

In pop culture, Ginsburg became an icon. Fellow liberal Justice Sonia Sotomayor nicknamed her “The Steel Magnolia” because she was “delicate on the outside, but she has an iron rod behind it.”

Regardless of which opinions you agreed or disagreed with, we believe Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. was eloquent in his summation that, “Our Nation has lost a jurist of historic stature,” “We at the Supreme Court have lost a cherished colleague. Today we mourn, but with confidence, that future generations will remember Ruth Bader Ginsburg as we knew her — a tireless and resolute champion of justice.”
