One fine Sunday I was walking on the tree-lined streets of Shanghai when I passed by a tiny shop displaying leather belts by its window. I peered in and saw an old man on a stool cutting and carving a piece of leather. His tiny shop was filled with belts of all shapes and sizes, as well as simple leather shoes. This old man, the work he displayed seemed promising. So I paid him to make the belts I had in mind, and he work didn't disappoint. He knew the kind of sturdy leather to pick for this belt. Everything was made by hand, from cutting, to hammering, and buffing. Due to this truly artisanal nature of his work, no two belts are exactly the same.
