This is a very nice quality fitch fur muff dating probably to the 1940s.  Fitch fur is similar to mink, but with distinctive darker markings.  The fitch is also known as a polecat.  This fur muff is made in a rectangular shape and has a smocked satin back with zippered compartment built into it.  There is a centre panel that inserts through a black satin loop - when opened, it reveals a small compartment, maybe for coins.  One would simply place one’s hands into the open cavity in the middle of the muff to keep warm.  When not using it as a hand warmer, you would carry it on your wrist using the built on satin strap.

Condition: The fitch fur muff is in very good condition with no pronounced wear.
