This is a gorgeous vintage 1950s formal dress featuring beautiful black lace appliqué. This 1950s formal dress is made of cream coloured silk organza over an acetate fabric supported by pellon - pellon is a lightweight interfacing that provides stiffness and form. The bodice is made of black silk jersey gathered in pleating. I posed the dress with a crinoline - the crinoline is not included with the dress, but if you want to re-create a full skirt 50s look, you would need to use one, even though the dress is very usable without a crinoline due to the support of the pellon under support. This 1950s formal dress has shoulder straps that can be worn on or off the shoulder (see photos), a an open neckline with sweetheart bodice, a cinched waist and a skirt that is cut like a circle - the dress closes with a metal zipper at the back.
Label: None, but this 1950s formal dress was manufactured.
Sizing: No size is indicated on this 1950s formal dress but it should fit a size medium with a small waist - please rely on the following measurements for fit, taking into the style of the dress into account:
Bust: 36” around, taken under the sleeves
Bodice: 15”-16” measured flat from the top shoulder to the waist
Waist: 26” around
Hips: Full - 44”, but meant to fall loosely
Overall length: 38”, measured flat from the top shoulder to the hemline
Condition: This 1950s formal dress is in very good condition - I did repair multiple splits to the lace appliqué but you would be hard pressed to find evidence of the repairs. The white organza has a slightly yellowed appearance. Please note that dry cleaners cannot clean pellon, so it would have to be removed and then re-sewn should you wish to clean the dress. This has been well stored over the last 65 or so years.
This is an exceptional 1950s formal dress - incredible work, very chic!
