This is a vintage Jean Louis Scherrer dress made in France - Scherrer was an important Parisian fashion designer, please read about Scherrer further down this page.  This vintage Jean Louis Scherrer dress is made in an ankle length coat style with a fold over front, although it is constructed so that you have to step into the skirt.  It has padded shoulders and long sleeves. It closes with a snap and with three of the six buttons of the double breasted front. This vintage Jean Louis Scherrer dress is fully lined in black rayon and acetate.

Labels: Jean-Louis Scherrer Boutique Paris Made in France.  Scherrer started his career with Christian Dior in 1955, leaving for Louis Feraud in 1957 when Dior died and Yves Saint Laurent became head designer at Dior.  He left Feraud in 1961 to start his own fashion house, selling his business in 1992 to Seibu of Japan.  

Fabric:  55% acetate / 45% viscose rayon - lining is 60% acetate / 40% cupro rayon

Sizing: US size 10 is indicated on the label and although this vintage Jean Louis Scherrer should fit a medium size, please note the following measurements for fit:

Shoulders: 16” across shoulder/sleeve seams

Sleeves:  23” from the shoulder/sleeve seam

Sleeve inseam:  17 1/2”

Bust:  40” around 

Waist:  34” around

Hips:  40” around, but meant to fall loosely

Overall length: 53 1/2“, measured flat at the back from the neck seam

Condition: This vintage Jean Louis Scherrer evening dress is in very clean condition with no wear, tear, staining or odour.
