Vintage 1960s Tuxedo Jacket Wine Silk Blend Dinner Jacket S

by poppysvintageclothing.com

  • Product Description

This is a wonderful late 1950s or early 1960s tuxedo jacket or dinner jacket made in a striking wine red colour, a little toward magenta.   This 1960s tuxedo jacket has narrow width black satin shawl lapels, and jetted pockets at either side and at the left chest.  There is a single vent at the bottom back.  The jacket does up with a single link button closure at the waist.  There are 2 interior pockets - one has the retailer’s label in it - the label on the interior of the pocket has been removed.  There are two buttons at either cuff. This 1960s tuxedo jacket is half lined in a black taffeta fabric.

Fabric:  unmarked, but most likely a silk and wool blend

Label: Eaton’s Men’s Shops with a knight logo - I believe that this knight logo was very short-lived

Sizing: No size is indicated, but it should fit a small size, probably a US size 36 - please rely on the following measurements for fit, taken from the outside:

Shoulders:  18” across seam-to-seam

Sleeves:  22 1/2” long

Sleeve Inseam:  15 1/4”

Chest: 40” around

Waist: 37” around

Overall length: 26 1/2“, measured flat

Condition: This 1960s tuxedo jacket is in very good condition, but the right shoulder pad is missing.  There is an open seam at the armpit lining, so the original owner must have purposely removed it for some reason.  Otherwise, there is no other wear, tear, soiling or staining. This 1960s tuxedo jacket looks like it saw little use and was well cared for over the years, so, with a little bit of work, will look great.

This is a striking 1950s - 1960s tuxedo jacket, the type of thing that an R&B/Soul singer would have worn - wonderful fabric and colour!
