This is a vintage mens overcoat made by Samuelsohn for Holt Renfrew of Canada.  This vintage mens overcoat is made in a classic style with padded shoulders, peaked lapels, a six button double breasted front, chest pocket, flapped side pockets, and four button split cuffs.  There is a 22” long kick vent at the bottom back.  This vintage mens overcoat is fully lined in blue satin acetate.  The coat is in a dark navy blue tone, almost black. 

Maker’s label:  Samuelsohn.  Samuelsohn was founded in 1923 by Lesser Samuelsohn, who moved to Montreal from New York - the business has thrived and expanded over the years, and is now a $15 million business.  Samuelsohn is known as a quality maker - I believe that some luxury brands contract manufacturing out to them

Retailer label:  The Men’s Shops Holt Renfrew Tailored by Samuelsohn.   Holt Renfrew is a luxury brand boutique type Canadian department store, known for offering top designer and high quality private label fashion. 

Content label:  Pure Virgin Wool

Union label:  This vintage mens overcoat was union made in Canada by the ACTWU/TAVT which was in existence between 1976 and 1995. 

Sizing: The size label on this vintage mens overcoat states size 42 regular, and although it seems to me to be a 42 long, please rely on the following measurements for fit, taken from the exterior (please take the thickness of the fabric and the cut of this vintage mens overcoat into consideration):

Shoulders: 20” across shoulder/sleeve seams

Sleeves: 26” from the shoulder seam

Sleeve Inseam: 16”

Chest: 50” around, taken under the arms

Waist: 48”

Hips:  49”

Overall length: 47“, measured flat at the back from the neck seam to the hemline

Condition:  Although pre-owned, this vintage mens overcoat is in clean condition - there is a tiny tear in the kick vent (see last close-up photo).  When these coats are new, the kick vent is sewn closed, so it looks to me like the owner didn’t realize this and tore the vent open, tearing the fabric.  It’s very small and you don’t see it because it is in the fold of the vent, but the backing lining is also torn - a few stitches and this will be fine.  Otherwise, no pronounced wear, tear, soiling, staining or odour.

This is a very nice quality vintage mens overcoat - anything bought at Holt Renfrew would have been expensive!
