The US Army 1st Infantry Division, also known as the "Big Red One," has a long and storied history in some of the most significant conflicts of the 20th and 21st centuries. The division was formed in 1917 and quickly found themselves in the thick of battle on the Western Front during World War I. They played a critical role in the Battle of Cantigny and the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, earning themselves the nickname "The Fighting First" for their bravery and tenacity.

In World War II, the 1st Infantry Division was involved in the invasions of North Africa, Sicily, and Normandy. They fought across Europe, taking part in the Battle of the Bulge and the crossing of the Rhine. In Korea, they played a critical role in the Battle of Bloody Ridge and the Battle of Heartbreak Ridge. In Vietnam, the division engaged in some of the deadliest battles of the war, including the Battle of Ap Bac and the Battle of Dak To.

Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, the 1st Infantry Division was involved in a number of military operations, including the Gulf War and the peacekeeping mission in Bosnia. They have also been deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq multiple times as part of the War on Terror, where they have played a critical role in fighting insurgent forces and training local security forces.

The 1st Infantry Division's legacy is one of bravery, tenacity, and effectiveness in combat. They have proven themselves to be one of the most elite and effective military units in the world, with numerous awards and decorations to their name. From their origins in World War I to their current operations in the War on Terror, the division has played a critical role in shaping American history.
