This is a 1970s mens raccoon fur coat made in Montreal for The Hudson’s Bay Company by Taran Furs.  This mens raccoon fur coat is made with a rounded collar that can be worn up or down - you can either leave the top button undone for a more open neckline or done up to protect the neck.  I’ve posed the neck in three different ways in the photos.  It has six buttons arranged in a double breasted style.  It has a slash pocket at either side.  The lining is quilted across the lower part.  The original owner’s embroidered monogram of “SD” is affixed to the left lining pocket.  There is a 19” kick vent at the bottom back this mens raccoon fur coat.

Label: Hudson’s Bay Company Incorporated 2nd May 1670.  Hudson’s Bay was the original fur company in North America, responsible for opening up much of the northern continent.

Content label:  This label certifies that the stuffing used in the quilted lining is new material only, in compliance with the Quebec law of 1969 - this helps in dating the coat  

Sizing: No size is indicated on this mens raccoon fur coat, but it should fit a large size, probably a US size 42/44, depending on whether you’re wearing a sweater or jacket underneath.  My husband wears a 42 and it fit him but was a little large and long in the sleeve. Please rely on the following measurements of this mens raccoon fur coat for fit (compare measurements with a similar coat that you presently own or to your own body measurements, taking the cut of the garment and thickness of fur into account):

Shoulders: 22”, taken across the back from shoulder/sleeve seam to shoulder/sleeve seam

Sleeves: 26” from the shoulder/sleeve seam

Sleeve inseam: 18”

Chest:  50” around, taken under the arms - 25” across pit-to-pit

Waist:  48” around

Overall length:  45”, measured flat at the back from the neck seam to the bottom

Condition:  This mens raccoon fur coat is in very good condition with no noted wear except for the label being detached.  Raccoon tends to be a fairly robust fur - there are no splits or repairs to the fur pelts and the fur appears fresh.  

This is a wonderful mens raccoon fur coat - you don’t often see a mens raccoon fur coat.  For the natty dresser!
