The Fighting Illini's 2007-2008 season is remembered for two things. The first is the Eric Gordon game on February 7th. After a hotly contested recruiting battle, Kelvin Sampson's #14 ranked Hoosiers arrived in Champaign in a charged environment. The Orange Krush provided the energy and Chester Frazier's opening chest bump set the tone of what was to come.
A back and forth double overtime thriller had a little bit of everything with Sampson and Bruce Weber going head to head and Gordon providing the finishing touches on an Indiana victory, 83-79.
Finishing the season 13-18, the Illini entered the Big Ten Tourney as an afterthought. That was until they ran off 3 straight wins including a 1 point win over Penn State and an OT win over #17 Purdue. The dream of stealing an NCAA Tournament automatic bid ended in a 61-48 loss but the Illini bounced back the following year to make the tourney again.
