This is a wonderful red silk kimono made in a dressing gown style.  This red silk kimono was made in Japan, most likely during the early 1960s, possibly 1950s, and features a gorgeous metallic gold and white silk bamboo pattern woven into the red silk.  The piece is lined in pale green fabric that is printed with a floral design.  This red silk kimono closes with a matching silk sash belt.

Fabric:  There is no content label, but I’m fairly sure that the red exterior is silk, especially because it’s woven with metallic gold and white silk thread.  The lining to this red silk kimono, however, may be rayon.

Sizing:  No size is indicated on this red silk kimono, but it should fit a range of medium to large sizes - please note the following measurements for fit:

Top:  50” across the top with the shoulders and sleeves in a straight line

Shoulders:  24 3/4” across from shoulder seam to shoulder seam - the shoulder drops onto the upper arm

Sleeves:  13” long from shoulder seam with a 17” long sleeve drop

Bust:  52” around with a normal overlap at the opening, but meant to hang loosely, and measurement depends on amount of overlap

Waist:  52” around, but meant to be cinched with the matching belt

Length:  49”, measured flat at the back from the neck seam

Condition: This red silk kimono is in very good condition - the exterior is very clean without noted wear, tear, staining, soiling or odour, but there is slight colour fading or discolouration to the upper lining and a small spot on the sleeve lining that I haven’t tried to remove, very minor because it’s not visible while the kimono is being worn.  The lining is hanging down at the bottom slightly - this may be a matter of just re-pressing the hem to correct, fairly minor issue in any case.

This is a striking red silk kimono.... Wonderful metallic bamboo patterning!
